I was recently wondering why a number of professional and collegiate sport teams choose the Cardinals as their team name. I readily admit that I am not a bird expert, but in my general life experiences I have not come across any information that has suggested that Cardinals are a feared member of the bird species.
In fact, just a few days ago I noticed a Red Cardinal hopping on the top of my fence. Interestingly enough a Robin was also hopping atop of the fence. They were hopping towards each other. With anxious anticipation, I watched and wondered what would happen. As the birds came within feathers of each other, the Cardinal flew off and the Robin in what seemed to be a silent celebration of sorts, paused for a moment on top of the fence. The Robin then resumed hopping on top of the fence.
Hence, again I wondered why there are a number of sport teams that call themselves the Cardinals. Off the top of my head, I cannot think of a single sport team that goes by the name of the Robins.
