Roy the Black and Tan Coonhound’s hunting career was beginning to take off. He felt it was time to take his show on the road. There was one particular event that stands out in my mind in Roy’s occupational development.

On this particular occasion, Roy had managed to escape the confines of our property. In order to find him I conducted a short search of the neighborhood, but my efforts were in vain. A short time later, I saw Roy trotting down the street. As he approached our house, I could see his tail wagging and he was clearly carrying something sizable in his mouth. My kids and a few of their friends were in our driveway and they too noticed that Roy had something in his mouth. I figured I would need to extract his treasure from him and I didn’t know if he would surrender his prize without a struggle.

Therefore, before Roy arrived at the driveway, I had the kids move away from the scene. As Roy’s paws hit the driveway, all I could tell about what he had was that it was big and silver. Much to my surprise Roy let me take it from his mouth without an issue. It was something wrapped in aluminum foil. I un-wrapped the foil and I discovered that it was loaf of fresh banana bread. Someone must have just baked the loaf and had put it outside to cool off. I wonder what they thought when they went to check on their bread later. Anyway, I threw the loaf of banana bread in the trash and that was the end of the incident.
