Some of you are familiar with Roy the Black and Tan Coonhound. For those of you that that find this terrain new and un-traveled, I suggest following the sniffable links about Roy at the end of this article. The purpose of this article is to detail another of Roy’s successful infamous hunts. As you shall see, once again Roy lives up to the general characteristics of his hound breed, but falls short of the expectations for his specific Black and Tan Coonhound breed.
It is quite a simple tale that involves one of my oldest son’s treasures of his youth. It seems as though among his many toys, which included every conceivable type of action figure and Star Wars item, he held dear to one particular item. This gem he kept safely squirreled away in one of his drawers. He was enchanted with it and he felt as though it provided him with some additional type of security. His imaginative mind was put at ease knowing that it was with him.
Well on one particular day many moons ago, from my son’s bedroom came his shrill cry of sadness, anger and confusion blended together. In hearing this sound of pure unadulterated angst, my wife and I rushed to our son’s side. When we arrived, our son exclaimed that Roy had eaten his lucky rabbit’s foot. Apparently, on that day, he had forgotten to secure his treasure in his drawer. Roy having been blessed with his hound’s gift of smell had seized this opportunity and honed in on the rabbit’s foot. When Roy had finished with his task, there was just a wisp of rabbit fur left behind. Roy never seemed to gain any luck from his ingestion of the rabbit’s foot. However, I still wonder if deep inside my son feels as though he missed out on any lucky breaks in his life do to Roy permanently separating him from his beloved lucky rabbit’s foot.
